About Us
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE STAND FOR
The overall goal of BULHALHO FOUNDATION (BUF) is to improve the living conditions of marginalized people in the Rwenzori Region of Western Uganda and enable them to play a more decisive role in their own development. We are thus addressing the crucial question of how local communities can be agents of change.
Furthermore, we want to promote peace in our communities, since peace is an unequivocal prerequisite for sustainable development. Our target groups are the most marginalized and at-risk people, in particular women, youth and less privileged children.
Our Motto
“Where there is a bridge, no drowning“
BUF wants build bridges towards a more prosperous future.
Our Vision
We want to see an empowered and peaceful society with an equitable development and a high quality of life.
Our Mission
We believe in creating advocacy in a peaceful society where socio-economic development, harmony and environmental protection are priorities.
Our Objectives
- To improve the livelihoods of marginalized groups, especially women, youth and children, by fostering their economic empowerment through improved agriculture and value-chain development
- To secure quality education and promote skills development through vocational training courses in our own Training Center with subsequent employment opportunities
- To enhance gender equality, prevent gender-based violence and promote human rights, peace, and harmony
- To enhance the conservation of the environment as well as natural resources management for community development
- To engage in advocacy, research and documentation with regards to the above objectives.
The approach designed by BUF to achieve its goals consists of strengthening the participation of local people in their own development in ways that will improve their livelihoods. To this end, we want to promote peaceful relations and encourage the spirit of volunteerism for the benefit of the whole community. This is done through community sensitization and mobilization strategies, coupled with thorough documentation of key findings, experiences and lessons learnt.
Bulhalho Foundation is a not-for-profit organization which was founded as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in Kabarole in 2014. Later, in 2018, it was registered with the NGO Bureau in Kampala under the Registration No; MIA/NB/2018//04/774.
We are now operating in all eight Districts of the Rwenzori Region namely: Kasese, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko, Kabarole, Bunyangabu, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa. These are all areas where poverty levels are high, and so are the development needs of the local population. We may sometimes extend our services to other parts of Uganda in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
